Cancer Survivor to Appear at Santa Barbara Book & Author Festival
Evan Handler, an actor on stage, screen and television, is recognized
around the world as Harry Goldenblatt, the take-no-prisoners divorce
lawyer and earthy second husband of Park Avenue princess Charlotte
York in the television series Sex and the City. He’s now cultivating
even more fans as David Duchovny’s co-star in the hit Showtime
series, Californication. Now, Handler brings us IT’S ONLY TEMPORARY:
The Good and Bad News of Being Alive, his uproariously funny, deeply
moving and utterly provocative account of his struggle to come back
to life and embrace it fully, after his tortuous, against-all-odds
recovery from acute myeloid leukemia.
At the age of twenty-eight, finally considered safe after five years of cancer treatments that culminated in a bone marrow transplant, Handler knew he should feel lucky just to be alive. With outrageous humor, sly wit, blunt honestly and profound insight, Handler shares stories of professional highs and lows, romantic disasters, false starts and dead ends as he searches for meaning in his unlikely existence – ultimately finding fulfillment beyond his wildest dreams.
Evan Handler will present IT’S ONLY TEMPORARY: The Good and Bad News of Being Alive, at the Santa Barbara Book & Author Festival at 12:30 PM. The Festival takes place Saturday, September 27th, 2008, from 10:00 AM to 5:00 PM, on the grounds of the Santa Barbara Public Library, Handler will discuss his career, his new book, take questions and sign books.
